“The City I Carry With Me”. In Memory of Vladimir Gubenko

Four Years of Remembrance Today.

July 31, marks exactly four years since the passing of Vladimir Gubenko — the author of the pencil drawings and a keeper of Brest’s memory, who lived in his native city for more than eighty years.

He passed away quietly. But the city to which he stayed devoted and faithful all his life has remained — in hundreds of images, on the pages of his memoirs, in the memory of all who care about the history and fate of Brest. This modest, remarkably erudite man, an intellectual of the old school, was able to preserve a fragment of a city that no longer exists. The documentary film about Vladimir Gubenko was made several years ago.

Today, on the day of his remembrance, we are opening access to it for the first time. The film holds what matters most: his city, his drawings, his voice. May it become one more fragment of the memory that Vladimir Gubenko left to us all.

May his memory be bright
